Southern Cross Protection provided security for the Rockhampton River Festival, 15-17 July, 2016.

The festival started on Friday, and so did the rain and winds. From Friday night to Sunday morning, the region was impacted by 200+ mm of heavy rain and gale force winds of 100 kmh, and by Sunday night the Fitzroy River was at bursting point.

Due to the unforeseen weather conditions, the event management team needed some assistance with the tent equipment to ensure the market holders’ gear was protected. Our security officers were more than pleased to lend a helping hand to protect everything from the winds and rain.

The festival ended up being cancelled on Saturday due to the severity of the weather, however the rain started to ease by Sunday morning to a constant dribble all day, and the festival was able to open its gates for the eager community.

A big thank you to all our committed security guards who went to levels above and beyond, considering the weather conditions they were working in.

Following the success of the event, the Rockhampton River Festival’s Event Manager was on the radio, and she was very grateful to Southern Cross Protection and the security team leaders – Dave and Tahlia Banister – for a fantastic job.

Well done Team Rockhampton!
