Companies and individuals in the Australian security industry have been recognised for their hard work, excellence and innovation on a national and international stage, at the 2016 Security Awards.

The Australian Security Industry Awards for Excellence have been an initiative of the Australian Security Industry Association Limited (ASIAL) for 21 years. In 2015, ASIAL partnered with the World Excellence Awards to bring the global OSPAs program to Australia.

This year, they again shared a prestigious Awards Ceremony & Dinner at The Westin on 20 October 2016, in Sydney’s iconic Martin Place.

We are very proud to announce Paul Mostyn as a Finalist for the Individual Achievement – General Security Award.

Paul recently demonstrated his ability to respond quickly in a crisis when an elderly lady collapsed in the Morayfield Shopping Center. Paul was able to identify she was having a seizure and organised for someone to take his place at the JB Hi-Fi door while he immediately summoned an ambulance. The woman continued to have a second seizure and while this was happening, her husband also collapsed with a seizure. Paul managed both the unconscious patients until the ambulance arrived which was no easy task. Both elderly people survived and are very grateful for Paul’s prompt response and excellent knowledge of first aid.

Paul’s Story

Paul has worked in the security industry for over 20 years so there is very little that he hasn’t seen! He started as a bouncer when he was nineteen, with a black belt in Kung Fu. Following that, Paul then worked as a personal bodyguard on the Gold Coast, protecting politicians and celebrities before returning to crowd control work for a number of years. From there, Paul moved on to covert security work and retail security. Paul has worked for Charter Security / Southern Cross Protection now for three years and is one of our stars. His situational awareness and experience in reading people means that he is a real asset in the loss prevention space.

Over the years Paul has assisted in the capture and apprehension of a known paedophile, a person suspected of murder and a number of other known thieves. Both the paedophile and murder suspect were subsequently charged and successfully prosecuted by police.

Paul has also been stabbed once when he was breaking up a fight between rival gang members.

Paul’s talents don’t stop at security. He is an accomplished musician and assistant Kung Fu instructor. Both these activities contribute to Paul’s ability to read people and respond appropriately in a crisis situation.

Paul also recently assisted a customer who had locked herself out of her car and did it so well that she wrote him a letter of appreciation.

It is people like Paul who make our company successful; experienced, dedicated and talented individuals who help us protect people, businesses and communities.
