Sep 2, 2016 02:11 am – Rosalie Mohr, one of our long serving patrol officers, was on duty in Ipswich QLD, when she arrived at one of her designated sites and observed a person in black who appeared to be leaning up against a mailbox, under a tree in the car park.
Rosalie went ahead to check the rear door of the site, coming around to the front door. Now noticing that it was not a mannequin as it had originally appeared, she then turned towards the person to enquire if they needed any assistance. Rosalie walked over, standing in front of him, and saw a rope around the young male’s neck. She immediately reached for his right hand, and felt that it was still soft and warm.
Rosalie quickly ran over to the bakery next door and banged on the door for assistance. Returning, she placed her right arm between the hanging man’s legs, lifting him to release the pressure from the rope. The baker arrived to assist, however he realised he could not undo the rope, so he ran back to his shop to get a knife.
On cutting the rope, the man fell to the ground as Rosalie could not support his weight from the position she was in. She rang triple zero, and knelt down to release the rope’s pressure from the man’s neck. She felt his pulse and with great relief, found him to be alive. Rosalie then reached over to lift his left hand and bring it across his chest, and began rubbing his chest with a hard massage around his heart area.
Police arrived at 02:16 am and performed CPR on the man. The ambulance arrived at 02:20 am and continued to resuscitate him until he was officially declared alive and transported to the local hospital for further care.
It is patrol officers like Rosalie Mohr who keep raising the bar with their compassion, concern and courage. We’re very proud to have her in our team! Thank you Rosalie for your unwavering dedication.
