An incident occurred recently with one of our Loss Prevention Officer (LPO) super stars, Kevin Martin.
Kevin was on a covert shift at a JB Hi-Fi Store when he made an observation that saved someone’s life.
Here is Kevin’s story:
“I observed a male aged about 70 years sitting in a mobility scooter beside the Samsung tablet display.
I noticed he was having trouble trying to do something to his Oxygen machine.
I quickly made my way over and asked if I could help him; this is when I released that he was in big trouble. He was holding his breath – his last breath – so he could not tell me what to do.
I quickly changed the battery of the Oxygen machine and he started breathing again. I asked him what happened and he said that his battery just failed; it normally lets him know 30 minutes beforehand.
He could have died if I had not gotten to him in time.
I stayed with him until he was ok, and he left 10 minutes later when he was confident that he was feeling alright.
My father died due to his Oxygen tank malfunctioning while he was asleep, so I was a little upset… but I am ok. I feel good about what I did”.
Kevin Martin joined us in August 2014, working across the Covert and LPO space, and has helped prevent thousands of dollars in theft. Kevin has always shown a high level of vigilance and awareness whilst performing his duties, which was clearly evident in this incident as he immediately took corrective action to assist in a medical emergency.
Well done, Kevin! The Southern Cross Protection team is proud to have you on board.
