Ivica Glavas saved a young man’s life.
And earlier this year, at the Australian Security Medal Foundation awards night at Sydney Town Hall, wearing his trademark shy grin, he became the latest of our Security Officers to be awarded an Australian Security Medal of Valor for doing so.
Ivica was driving along a back road at night through The Dandenongs in outer Melbourne to a patrol call, when he noticed a car parked with its engine running. Ivica has a rewardingly inquisitive nature, not wasted in our industry. When he investigated, he found a hose connected to the exhaust and inserted in the back window. A young man was attempting suicide. lvica removed the hose, forced entry to the locked car, and turned off the engine. The occupant was unconscious, convulsing. Ivica removed him from the deadly environment and called Emergency Services, coolly administering first-aid under their instruction until an ambulance arrived and paramedics took over, conducting CPR.
It would be presumptuous of us to endorse Ivica’s actions, or thank him for being who he is. His act speaks for itself and will speak of him and to him for the rest of his life. Southern Cross Protection can only say we are proud to have Ivica Glavas as an employee, and we salute him.
