This year, St. John Ambulance Australia presented the Save a Life Award to Craig Williams, Branch Manager of Southern Cross Protection’s office in Darwin.
This award is recognition of someone’s contribution to saving a life of another person through application of first aid skills such as resuscitation, use of defibrillator, or stopping severe bleeding. How Craig earned this award is nothing less than a remarkable story as he potentially saved a man’s life by his sharp eye and swift thinking.
Craig was passing by on his way to an alarm when he noticed a man lying on the ground. Craig was concerned he didn’t look well, so he pulled over and sure enough, the man had suffered a stroke. Craig rolled the man into the recovery position and contacted the ambulance. He also placed a pillow from his car under the man’s head as there was evidence he had hit it as he fell.
Craig stayed there until the ambulance came and they confirmed it was a stroke.
Southern Cross Protection couldn’t be prouder to add Craig Williams in its roster of heroes in the team.
Well done, Craig!
